BROOKLAND, Ark. — Four of Brookland’s Flock cameras were destroyed over the weekend, including cameras that police said had been shot, torn down and, in one case, “obliterated.”
Brookland Police Chief Jon Moore confirmed Tuesday that the city currently has 14 Flock cameras and that four were vandalized and destroyed over the weekend.
The investigation began Sept. 5 after an officer was notified that several cameras were showing as offline. Officer Kade Carder checked four locations and found damage at each of them. One camera was lying in a ditch, another had its wires cut, another had been knocked down and a fourth was missing, according to the initial report.
Moore conducted a follow-up investigation Sept. 7 and found evidence that the cameras had apparently been shot.
At the Hayes Street location, the camera and upper section of the pole were missing. Moore wrote that the equipment was later located at Matthews and County Road 937 and had damage consistent with being shot.
A camera at School Street and County Road 937 was still standing but had been shot and sustained considerable damage, according to the report. At County Road 928 and County Road 937, police said the pole remained standing, but the camera had been “obliterated” by gunfire along with its solar panel.
The fourth camera, located on Eason Street, had been torn down along with the upper portion of its pole. Police said that camera also had damage consistent with being shot.
“In total, 4 cameras were destroyed,” Moore wrote in the report.
The damaged cameras that officers recovered were collected and secured at the former Brookland Police Department building. The case remains under investigation.
No suspect information was listed in the report.
