BLYTHEVILLE, Ark. — A routine grocery trip turned into a $100,000 lottery win for a Mississippi County woman who selected her scratch-off ticket by pushing a random button.
Bonnie W. won the top prize playing the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery’s $5 50X instant game. She claimed her winnings Aug. 12 at the lottery’s claim center in Little Rock.
The winning ticket was purchased from a vending machine at Kroger 465 Fuel, 400 W. Moultrie in Blytheville.
Bonnie told lottery officials she plays a couple of times each month and did not have a particular game in mind when she made the purchase.
“I just pushed a random button,” she said. “I didn’t realize it would have such a big prize. I’m still shocked!”
Bonnie scratched the ticket inside the store and initially discovered a $50,000 prize on the first row. She then uncovered another $50,000 prize on the second row, bringing her total winnings to $100,000.
She first shared the news with her husband, who needed some convincing that the ticket was real, according to the lottery. She then called her best friend and asked her to accompany her to Little Rock to claim the prize.
Bonnie told lottery officials she plans to save the money.
One $100,000 top prize remains available in the 50X game.
