JONESBORO, Ark. — A woman was arrested after Jonesboro police said a man was stabbed during a domestic disturbance on Sunday.
According to a probable cause affidavit from the Jonesboro Police Department, officers responded to the disturbance and found a male victim lying on the sidewalk with a stab wound.
Police identified the defendant as Demesha Lashay Gibson, 27.
The alleged victim told police that Gibson was upset he had stayed the night at another residence, and the two got into a physical fight, according to the affidavit. During an interview, Gibson reportedly told police she and the victim began arguing after she came home from the hospital and that he hit her in the face before the two started fighting.
Police said Gibson told officers she grabbed the victim’s hair and tried to pull him to the ground, but fell down and continued hitting him. She then said the victim started bleeding from the neck and pinned her down, according to the affidavit.
Investigators said Gibson told them she did not know if anyone else had been in the house besides the two of them, though she said her 3-year-old daughter was at the hospital with her. Officers reported they found a knife in the living room and that Gibson later said the victim had claimed to have another knife.
Gibson was arrested on a charge of second-degree battery, a Class C felony.
Special Judge Barbara Halsey set bond at $50,000 cash or surety. Gibson’s next court date is May 18.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
