Collaborative Effort Between Woodruff County and Mallard Masters Generates $200,000 for Local Impact

AUGUSTA, Ark. — A collaborative effort between the Woodruff County Economic Development Commission and Mallard Masters at Augusta, Inc (Mallard Masters) culminated in a $200,000 investment back into the community, celebrated during a check presentation held at the newly installed Woodruff County welcome sign at the intersection of U.S. Highway 64 and Walnut Street.

The donation, made possible through proceeds from the annual Mallard Masters Championship event, will be evenly split to support two key priorities in the county. A total of $100,000 has been designated for economic development efforts, while the remaining $100,000 will fund scholarships for local Woodruff County students.

The Mallard Masters Championship, powered by a strong partnership between local leaders, volunteers, and Woodruff County, has grown into more than just a premier duck hunting event. Each year, it brings together competitors, families, and supporters for a day of competition, community celebration, and philanthropy, all with the goal of reinvesting in Woodruff County’s future through education and economic growth.

“I am extremely grateful to everyone who worked so hard to make this event a success,” said Woodruff County Judge Michael-John Gray. ”These funds will help us to continue to promote tourism opportunities, strengthen infrastructure, and keep moving Woodruff County forward.”

Since its inception, the Mallard Masters Championship has been rooted in both tradition and purpose, born from a simple idea to spotlight the region’s rich duck hunting heritage while creating meaningful impact for the community.

“What started as a conversation among friends has turned into something that truly makes a difference,” said Chris Eldridge, one of the founders of the Mallard Masters Championship. “Every year, we’re reminded that this event is about more than the hunt. It’s about creating opportunities, supporting our neighbors, and doing our part to make Woodruff County stronger for the next generation.”

Blake Wright, also part of the founding group, emphasized the importance of investing in local students and long-term growth.

“We’ve always believed that the future of Woodruff County depends on the people who call it home,” Wright said. “These scholarships give students a chance to further their education, and we hope many of them will come back and build their lives and careers right here. At the same time, investing in economic development helps ensure there are opportunities waiting for them when they do.”

Held annually in Augusta, the Mallard Masters Championship combines a team-based duck hunting tournament with a full day of community activities, including live entertainment, food, auctions, and fellowship. Proceeds from the event are reinvested directly into initiatives that support education, workforce development, and sustainable economic growth across Woodruff County.

With this year’s donation, the ongoing partnership between the Woodruff County Economic Development Commission and Mallard Masters continues to demonstrate the shared commitment to preserving the region’s heritage while building a stronger, more vibrant future for generations to come.

The Mallard Masters Championship will return next year on Saturday, January 16, 2027, in Augusta. Organizers encourage teams, sponsors, and community members to mark their calendars and be part of another year of competition, camaraderie, and community impact.
