Paragould Suspect Accused of Soliciting Juveniles, Facing Felony Charge

PARAGOULD, Ark. — An 18-year-old Paragould man has been accused of soliciting two juveniles under the age of 15 to engage in sexual activity, according to a probable cause affidavit.

Paragould police said a report was made alleging that Landon Smith attempted to solicit the juveniles. Detectives investigated and found corroborating evidence supporting the allegations, the affidavit states.

During an interview with investigators, Smith waived his rights under Miranda and made incriminating statements, according to the report.

Smith faces one count of sexual indecency with a child, a Class D felony, along with two misdemeanor counts of endangering the welfare of a minor. His bail was set at $15,000 cash only.

5-14-110. Sexual indecency with a child.
(a) A person commits sexual indecency with a child if:
(1) Being eighteen (18) years of age or older, the person solicits another person who is less than fifteen (15) years of age or who is represented to be less than fifteen (15) years of age to engage in:
(A) Sexual intercourse;
(B) Deviant sexual activity; or
(C) Sexual contact;
(b) Sexual indecency with a child is a:
(1) Class D felony under subdivisions (a)(1)-(5) of this section

Court records also show orders for Smith to wear an ankle monitor and have no contact with the alleged victims.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
