Witness Says Jonesboro Man Stabbed Girlfriend, Blocked Her From Calling for Help

JONESBORO, Ark. — A Jonesboro man is accused of stabbing his girlfriend multiple times during a disturbance at a Spence Circle residence, according to police.

Officers were dispatched Aug. 31 to the 2200 block of Spence Circle, where they found a woman with multiple stab wounds and a man with blood on his shirt, the probable cause affidavit said. The woman was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The suspect, identified as 29-year-old Martavius Lashun Huntley, was taken into custody. After being read his rights, Huntley claimed who he identified as his girlfriend had been very intoxicated and verbally aggressive. He claimed she attacked him and attempted to stab him with scissors. Huntley said he took the scissors and stabbed her at least three times in the leg area.

A witness told police she saw Huntley grab the scissors and repeatedly stab the victim while restraining her. The witness also reported that Huntley refused to return the woman’s phone when she tried to call for help.

The victim was reported to have multiple stab wounds in the back and leg area.

Huntley faces charges of second-degree battery, a Class B felony, and first-degree interference with emergency communication, a misdemeanor. The judge set his bail at $75,000 cash or surety.

The case remains under investigation.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
