CLARENDON — Five inmates at the Monroe County Detention Center are accused of killing a man who had been booked on charges of possessing child sexual abuse material and a firearm.

The Arkansas State Police said in a press release that 44-year-old Terry Craig of Clarendon was found injured in his cell on Aug. 8, shortly after his arrest. He was taken to Baptist Health Medical Center in Stuttgart, where he was pronounced dead just before 10 p.m.

On Aug. 12, Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division special agents served arrest warrants on Gregory Otis, 38; Typaris Johnson, 26; Antonio Aldridge, 31; Reko Branscomb, 28; and Carmello Hawkins, 18. All five are charged with first-degree murder, first-degree battery, and engaging in violent criminal group activity.

They remain in custody on $3 million bonds each, with first court appearances set for Aug. 19.

Craig had just been arrested on charges of Possession of Child Sexual Abuse Materials and Possession of a Firearm by Certain Persons, state police said.

Craig’s body was sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab to determine the cause and manner of death.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
