JONESBORO, Ark. — A woman is accused of breaking into an apartment, stealing property, and causing damage during a dispute that police say began over a Facebook post.
According to a probable cause affidavit, Jonesboro police responded Aug. 7 to a burglary report on Westwood Drive. The victim told officers Theresa Watts, 27, had entered her apartment while she was away, causing $264 in damage and taking about $400 worth of property.
Police said the victim later found her stolen property inside Watts’ vehicle at another apartment complex. A third party returned the items. The affidavit states the victim also provided officers with a screenshot of a message from Watts telling her where to find the stolen property.
Court records show Watts was convicted of theft in 2020, making this her second theft-related offense.
Watts is facing charges of residential burglary, a Class B felony; theft, a Class D felony; and first-degree criminal mischief, a misdemeanor. A judge set her bail at $100,000 cash or surety with a no-contact order and GPS ankle monitor. The defendant became emotional in court after learning of the bail.
Her next court date is Sept. 30.
All suspects are considered innocent unless proven guilty in court.
