Man Accused of Fleeing, Spitting on Officer, Threatening Jailer in Jonesboro Arrest

JONESBORO, Ark. — A man is accused of multiple felonies after police say he fled officers, caused property damage, and threatened to shoot a jailer during his arrest this week.

According to a probable cause affidavit, officers responded Aug. 12 to a residence on Santa Fe Circle for a report of a person refusing to leave. Police said they found Marcus Alexander in the driveway and saw him attempting to walk away. When officers ordered him to stop, he allegedly fled on foot, jumping fences and running through neighboring yards before being caught on Stonemill Drive.

Police reported that while being escorted to a transport vehicle, Alexander slammed his head into the vehicle, causing a large dent to the driver’s side hood. Officers said he later spat into one officer’s face, striking the officer’s cheek, eye, and mouth.

Alexander is accused of continuing to yell and curse at officers, kicking the vehicle door, and slamming his face into the cage inside the vehicle. He allegedly attempted to spit on the transport officer and, once at the Craighead County Detention Center, continued spitting and had to be placed in a restraint chair. Police said he also kicked, scratched, and threatened officers, telling one jailer, “I will shoot you in the face.”

He is facing charges of interfering with law enforcement by threatening deadly force, a Class C felony; aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, a Class D felony; and misdemeanor counts of violating a no-contact order, first-degree criminal mischief, fleeing, and disorderly conduct.

Judge Tommy Fowler set Alexander’s bail at $25,000 cash only. He ordered a no-contact order and GPS ankle monitor, noting he is not from the area, is on probation, and has a history of fleeing and violence. His next court date is Sept. 30.

All suspects are considered innocent unless proven guilty in court.
