Paragould Man Accused of Threatening to Kill Fiancée and Infant

PARAGOULD, Ark. — A Paragould man is facing multiple charges after police say he assaulted his fiancée and threatened to kill her and their 9-month-old child during a domestic dispute.

On July 23, officers with the Paragould Police Department responded to a report of domestic violence on East Lake Street. According to a probable cause affidavit, the victim told police that the night before, her fiancé, Benjamin Martin, 22, became upset, bit her hand, and then threatened to kill both her and their baby. The child was reportedly on the bed with them during the incident.

The victim provided police with an audio recording in which Martin could allegedly be heard making threats. Officers documented the injury and collected the audio as evidence.

Martin was located, arrested, and transported to the police department. Under Miranda warning, he made self-incriminating statements during questioning, police said.

Martin is charged with terroristic threatening, a Class D felony; third-degree domestic battering, a Class A misdemeanor; and second-degree endangering the welfare of a minor, also a Class A misdemeanor.

Jail records show Martin’s bail was set at $10,000.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
