HOXIE, Ark. — It took two officers, a taser, and a civilian bystander to take a man into custody after a high-speed chase earlier this week in Hoxie.
Around 9:00 a.m. on July 20, Patrolman Richy Thatcher was parked at the old gas station at the corner of SW Texas and SW Cotter Street, according to the probable cause affidavit. He was running radar when he noticed a blue car traveling 50 mph in a 35 mph zone south on Highway 367.
The officer attempted to catch up to the vehicle, but it began making quick turns at a high rate of speed. The patrolman radioed that the suspect was fleeing. The suspect vehicle reportedly hit speeds of 100 mph on t367 toward Minturn. The vehicle almost hit a truck, causing the truck to pull onto the shoulder to avoid being hit. Several other vehicles had to move to the shoulder to avoid a collision.
Thatcher was able to pull up next to the suspect and perform a PIT maneuver. The driver lost control but recovered and took off beside the Minturn Cafe. A second PIT maneuver by the officer, a short time later, ended the chase when the officer blocked in the suspect with his patrol vehicle.
The affidavit states that this is when the driver jumped out of the vehicle and started walking away. The officer had his weapon drawn and told him to get on the ground, but the driver wouldn’t comply, the affidavit says. The officer holstered his weapon and went to grab the driver, but he slipped away and ran back to the vehicle, getting in. A bystander attempted to help, and a second officer showed up to use her taser, but it had no effect on him.
Eventually, they were able to wrestle him to the ground and take him into custody.
The suspect was checked out by EMTs and asked to go to the emergency room. After he was determined to be okay, he was released by the doctor to go to jail. The officer had bruised ribs from the incident, and there was some damage to the patrol car.
Jeremy Allen Fisher faces charges including fleeing, a Class C felony, and misdemeanors for resisting arrest and speeding. He is also facing a drug court violation, jail records show.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
