WRPD to get new body armor

WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. – The thin blue line will be a little more safe for police officers in Walnut Ridge after a vote Monday night from the Walnut Ridge City Council.

On Monday, July 17, the city council voted unanimously to approve a $6,320 purchase order for eight brand new body armor vests for police officers on the WRPD force. The vests, which were just under $800 each, were ordered from Teeco Safety by Tuesday morning following the council’s decision, said Walnut Ridge Police Chief Chris Kirksey.  Continue reading “WRPD to get new body armor”

Gibbens Honored for 50 Years of Service at WBC

WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. – Professor Jerry Gibbens was recently honored for a very rare milestone: 50 years of service at Williams Baptist College.  Gibbens was recognized during WBC’s spring graduation ceremony for completing a half-century at the institution.

While Gibbens received a medallion to commemorate his five decades at Williams, WBC President Dr. Tom Jones revealed that the commons area in the college’s Maddox Center is to be named Gibbens Atrium, beginning this fall.

Gibbens, professor of English and chair of the division of arts and sciences at Williams, is only the second employee in school history to reach the 50 year milestone. Continue reading “Gibbens Honored for 50 Years of Service at WBC”

Beatles at the Ridge Set for Sept. 15-16

WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. – The 2017 Beatles at the Ridge Music Festival is set for Sept. 15-16 in downtown Walnut Ridge.  This year’s festival will mark the 50th anniversary of the Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band album.
