Paragould Man Faces Felony After Alleged Tractor Supply Theft

PARAGOULD, Ark. — A Paragould man is accused of felony theft after allegedly leaving a local store without paying for a cart full of merchandise.

According to a probable cause affidavit filed by the Paragould Police Department, Gary Dumas was seen inside Tractor Supply at 3400 W. Kingshighway on the afternoon of June 6. An employee told police Dumas selected various items and then exited the store without attempting to pay.

Store personnel were able to obtain identifying information for the suspect, the affidavit stated.

Dumas has a prior theft conviction from 2019, according to investigators.

He now faces a charge of theft of property, a Class D felony. A judge set bail at $10,000 cash or surety with a no-contact order in place.

A.C.A. § 5-36-103
Theft of property.
(a) A person commits theft of property if he or she knowingly:
(1) Takes or exercises unauthorized control over or makes an unauthorized transfer of an interest in the property of another person with the purpose of depriving the owner of the property.
(b) Theft of property is a:
(3) Class D felony if:
(A) The value of the property is five thousand dollars ($5,000) or less but more than one thousand dollars ($1,000);
(J) The value of the property is one thousand dollars ($1,000) or less and the person has been previously convicted of a theft offense of any classification within ten (10) years of the current offense.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
