Remains Found Near Lake Ashbaugh Identified as Jessica Paige Kemp

PARAGOULD, Ark. — Remains discovered last week southwest of Lake Ashbaugh have been identified as those of Jessica Paige Kemp, authorities confirmed Wednesday.

Greene County Sheriff Brad Snyder told NEA Report that the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory made the identification and released the findings to the coroner, who then notified Kemp’s mother.

Kemp, 34, had been reported missing for more than a month. She was last seen by the Greene County Sheriff’s Office on May 5 at a campsite west of Lake Ashbaugh near Delaplaine. Her vehicle and personal belongings were later found unoccupied in the area.

No additional autopsy details have been released, and the final report could take some time, Snyder said.

The remains were found around 1:45 p.m. on June 9 by a member of a civilian search party and a Greene County detective, according to an earlier release from the sheriff. A strong odor commonly associated with decomposition led them to the discovery, where they located skeletal remains in an advanced state of decomposition.

Due to the condition of the remains, the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory was tasked with making the positive identification. The Greene County Coroner’s Office handled the transport to the lab.

The Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division, Company F, was assisting in the investigation, but the Greene County Sheriff’s Department remained the lead agency.

Our sincerest condolences are with the family and loved ones.
