22 Years for Jonesboro Level 3 Sex Offender Convicted of Failing to Register

JONESBORO, Ark. — On Wednesday, April 1, a Craighead County Circuit Court jury found a Jonesboro man guilty of failing to register as a sex offender and residing too close to a school, sentencing him to a total of Twenty-Two (22) years in prison.

After approximately 33 minutes of deliberation, the jury returned a guilty verdict against Armondo Hamilton, 47, on Wednesday evening. The case was presided over by Circuit Judge Chris Thyer, who followed the jury’s sentencing recommendation and imposed 12 years’ imprisonment for failure to register as a sex offender and 10 years for residing too close to a school. The sentences will run consecutively, for a total of 22 years in the Arkansas Department of Correction, subject to parole eligibility.

The State was represented by Managing Deputy Prosecutor Charlene Davidson and Rule XV Law Student Intern Jon White. Rule XV students are authorized to practice under the supervision of a licensed attorney. White is currently a law student at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and is expected to graduate in May.

“The verdict reinforces the importance of registration laws,” Davidson said. “These requirements exist to protect communities—especially children—and we will continue to hold offenders accountable when they choose to ignore them.”

“The jury found that the defendant knew the law and chose not to follow it,” she said, adding that the verdict “reflects that accountability matters and that compliance with these laws is not optional.”

Hamilton was arrested on March 25, 2025, for failing to register as a level 3 sex offender at his residence located at 2101 Sandbrook. The residence is approximately 1,484 feet from Fox Meadow Elementary School, placing him in violation of sex offender residency restrictions.

Hamilton was previously convicted in Crittenden County in 1999 of three counts of sexual abuse.

The Prosecuting Attorney’s Office also extends its gratitude to the law enforcement officers involved in the investigation for their diligent work, and to the jurors for their time, attention, and service to the community.
