MONETTE, Ark. — A woman was arrested this week on charges including residential burglary, theft, and criminal trespass after she was accused of stealing an air conditioner from a home that was damaged by storms.
The probable cause affidavit alleges that around 5:30 PM on May 31, 2025, Kandice Hodge went to the 900 block of West Drew Avenue in Monette without permission and took an air conditioner out of a room attached to the house without permission. The house was open due to damage from a tornado back in March.
Hodge was caught on a motion camera during the incident.
Police spoke to Hodge, who reportedly admitted to taking the air conditioner but stated she had permission to do so. When authorities spoke to the property owners, they said she did not have permission to go on the property or to take anything. They said the driveway was closed off with a rope so no one could park on the property.
Hodge said a witness stated he had heard her get permission, but the witness denied that to police.
Officers interviewed Hodge at the police station. She was read her Miranda rights, and according to the affidavit, again admitted to taking the air conditioner but stated she had permission.
“I advised her that she didn’t have permission,” the sergeant wrote in his affidavit.
Kandice Nicole Hodge, 29, was arrested on June 3. She is being charged with residential burglary, a Class B felony, and misdemeanors for theft and criminal trespass. She appeared before District Judge Tommy Fowler on Wednesday for her probable cause hearing. As the judge read her potential sentence on the felony, 5 to 20 years, Hodge became emotional. Bail was set at $75,000 cash or surety.
Her next court appearance is scheduled for August 1, 2025.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
