Paragould Man Arrested on Domestic Battery, 911 Interference Charges

PARAGOULD, Ark. — A Paragould man was arrested Friday night after police responded to a domestic disturbance on W Vine Street.

According to a probable cause affidavit, officers with the Paragould Police Department were dispatched to the residence around 10:25 p.m. on May 2. They spoke with the alleged victim outside the home, while other officers contacted Colton Woodson inside.

The alleged victim told police that an argument over relationship issues escalated after Woodson, who had reportedly been drinking, began yelling and slamming items. She said the situation turned physical when Woodson started pushing her and acting aggressively.

The alleged victim reported that when she attempted to call 911, Woodson pushed her onto a bed and held her down in an effort to prevent the call. She said she hid her phone behind her back to keep him from taking it. During the incident, she alleged that Woodson bit her hand and choked her.

Police observed a small cut on her hand, as well as red marks and a bruise on the front of her neck. A neighbor reported hearing the disturbance and the alleged victim yelling, “Don’t take my phone,” before calling for help.

Woodson had visible scratch marks on his arms and a handprint on his shoulder, injuries officers believed were consistent with the alleged victim defending herself. He also had a red mark on his lower back, reportedly from falling into a table due to intoxication.

Woodson was arrested and taken to the Greene County Detention Center. He faces charges of third-degree domestic battery, a felony, and first-degree interference with emergency communications, a misdemeanor.

Bail was set at $5,000 cash-only, with a no-contact order to protect the victim. Firearms are prohibited for the defendant as well.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
