Hunting Cabin Burglary Investigation Leads to Arrest After Suspect Found Hiding in Water Heater Closet

POINSETT COUNTY, Ark. — A Poinsett County burglary investigation ended with an arrest Monday after deputies recovered thousands of dollars in allegedly stolen property and found a suspect hiding inside a water heater closet.

According to the Poinsett County Sheriff’s Office, deputies began investigating after responding June 6 to a report of a burglary at a hunting cabin off Highway 135. Authorities said the cabin had been heavily damaged, with an estimated loss of approximately $80,000 from stolen property and damage.

During the investigation, detectives and deputies went Monday to the residence of Joshua Miles, 49, in the Ditch 56 area of Rivervale. Authorities said items believed to have been stolen from the hunting cabin were visible in the front yard.

Investigators obtained a search warrant, which was executed at approximately 6:21 p.m. Monday by the Poinsett County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team.

During the search, deputies recovered additional property believed to have been taken from the cabin, including an antique kitchen island, a Samsung washer and dryer, two deer mounts, French doors, a stainless steel kitchen sink and approximately $9,000 worth of cedar lumber.

Authorities also located Miles hiding inside a hot water heater closet.

Miles was arrested and is facing charges of theft of property greater than $25,000, burglary and possession of firearms by certain persons.

The sheriff’s office said additional charges may be pending as the investigation continues.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
