Man Arrested After Reporting Himself for Allegedly Waving Gun at Traffic in Marion

MARION, Ark. — A man was taken into custody Tuesday after authorities received a report of an individual allegedly waving a firearm at passing vehicles in Marion.

According to the Marion Police Department, officers were dispatched at approximately 11:52 a.m. June 9 to the area of Hino and Kuhn roads following a report of a male subject displaying a firearm toward passing motorists.

When officers arrived, they encountered the individual, who police said was uncooperative. Officers were able to safely take him into custody without incident.

During the investigation, authorities determined the man had placed the call himself. Police said the individual appeared to be experiencing a possible mental health crisis.

Officers searched for a firearm but did not locate one.

The man was arrested on multiple charges, though specific charges had not been released as of Tuesday afternoon.

Police said the individual will receive appropriate screening and treatment.

The Marion Police Department thanked the Arkansas State Police, Crittenden County Sheriff’s Office, West Memphis Police Department and the Crittenden County Emergency Communications Center for assisting in bringing the situation to a safe conclusion.
