PARAGOULD, Ark. — A woman banned from Walmart last year is now facing new charges after allegedly shoplifting from the store, according to Paragould police.
On April 24, officers responded to Walmart at 2802 W. Kingshighway regarding a reported shoplifting incident. Walmart loss prevention associates told officers that the suspect, identified as Takyia Howard, was seen switching barcodes to lower prices and concealing merchandise.
Employees said Howard went through the self-checkout lane and intentionally undercharged herself before being stopped while attempting to leave the store.
Officers arrested Howard at the scene and later learned she had previously been banned from all Walmart properties on March 29, 2024.
Howard was transported to the Paragould Police Department for questioning, where investigators said she made self-incriminating statements during a Mirandized interview.
Howard is charged with commercial burglary, a Class C felony, and theft of property, a Class A misdemeanor. Her bail was set at $25,000 cash or surety. A judge also issued a no-contact order and required her to wear an ankle monitor upon release.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
