JONESBORO, Ark. — Two suspects were shocked to have $250,000 bonds set after their arrests this week in Jonesboro, including a man who was just released from prison 17 days prior.
At about 12:11 p.m. on March 11, investigators with JPD observed a vehicle with expired fictitious tags on Red Wolf Boulevard, the PC affidavit said. A traffic stop was conducted in the 2600 block of Red Wolf. Police identified the driver as Jessica Murphy, 31, and the passenger as Demario Cannon, 38. After Cannon began moving around and digging in his pockets, the PC affidavit says police asked both him and the driver to step out. A K9 gave a positive alert after conducting a free air sniff.
The vehicle was searched. Police reported finding a large bag containing 25.25 grams of suspected methamphetamine in the rear floorboard. A used meth pipe was also found.
Police searched Cannon, finding $1,500 in cash in one pants pocket and $1,495 in another. Murphy was found to have cash as well. Officers could not locate valid insurance on the vehicle.
Both suspects were arrested.
Jessica Ann Murphy-Hodgkiss, 31, of Jonesboro, also appeared in court on Wednesday for her probable cause hearing, facing charges of Possession of Meth or Cocaine With Purpose to Deliver Over 10 Grams, Less than 200 Grams, a Class A felony, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, a Class D felony, and misdemeanors for Ficitious Tags, and No Proof of Liability Insurance. Judge Tommy Fowler noted she is on parole and had prior delivery charges as he set bail at $250,000 cash or surety.
Unhappy with the bond amount, Murphy pleaded with the judge, bringing up her child and asking “what about” him. The judge said he didn’t think her child was at the forefront of her mind when she was being arrested.
Demario Shondell Cannon, 38, of Little Rock, also appeared in court Wednesday. He is being charged with Possession of Meth/Cocaine with Purpose to Deliver, Over 10 Grams, Less than 200 Grams, a Class A felony, along with a drug paraphernalia charge. When Judge Fowler asked Cannon if he had been out of prison for 17 days before being arrested again, Cannon looked down and said yes. Cannon also is on parole and has multiple failure to appear charges.
Considering those factors, Judge Fowler set bail at $250,000 cash or surety with a GPS ankle monitor requirement. The news surprised Cannon, who struggled for words as he showed his displeasure before the jailer directed him back to the holding area.
Both are due back in court on April 24. Jail records showed a parole hold on both defendants.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Why would they be shocked? It’s not like Arkansas is New York or California.
