CORNING, Ark. — A Jonesboro suspect was arrested late Monday night after Clay County deputies said she led them on a pursuit through Corning before crashing off a county road.
According to a press release from Clay County Sheriff Ronnie Cole, two deputies were on a traffic stop at the intersection of U.S. 62 and U.S. 67 in Corning at about 11 p.m. April 20 when they saw a Chevrolet HHR run a red light at a high rate of speed while traveling east on U.S. 62.
Deputies ended the traffic stop and attempted to stop the HHR, according to the release. The vehicle turned from West Main onto South Second Street and failed to yield at several stop signs, authorities said.
The pursuit continued after the driver realized Second Street was a dead end and tried to turn left onto Bryan Street, according to the sheriff. The driver lost control and the vehicle went airborne at the intersection of Bryan and Second streets.
Authorities said the vehicle then traveled east, jumped a ditch and came out southbound on First Street before leaving Corning onto County Road 128.
During the pursuit, the vehicle began swerving and came into contact with a deputy’s vehicle, according to the release. The HHR then went into a ditch, ending the pursuit.
Deputies removed the driver from the vehicle at gunpoint and took her into custody, authorities said. EMS was called to evaluate her before she was taken to the Clay County Detention Center.
The sheriff identified the suspect as Angel Elexislee Blakely, 29, of Jonesboro.
Blakely was booked on charges of felony fleeing, DWI involving drugs, possession of methamphetamine or cocaine less than 2 grams, reckless driving, failure to stop at a sign or signal, driving on a suspended driver’s license, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
