JONESBORO, Ark. — What could have been a misdemeanor charge may end up as a felony for someone who has been previously convicted of theft, as many are learning in Craighead County.
In one instance, officers responded Feb. 15 to Walmart on Parker Road for two males concealing merchandise in a red birthday bag. Both reportedly left without paying. The two made it as far as Southwest Drive when police caught up to them. Thomas Isaac Adams, 21, of West Memphis, and Anthony Rashawn Mosley, 26, of Hughes, have both previously been convicted of theft charges, according to the probable cause affidavit. They now face charges of Theft, $1,000 or less, Second Offense, which is a Class D felony. Bail was set by Judge Chris Thyer at $5,000 cash or surety for Adams and $2,500 for Mosley.
In a separate incident, officers responded on Feb. 17 to Walmart on Highland Drive in Jonesboro in reference to a theft. Loss prevention reported observing Andre Carter stealing items from the store. He reportedly ran from the store after the theft. Officers made contact with Carter in the adjoining gas station parking lot and took him into custody.
The affidavit states he had been previously criminally banned from all Walmart locations and had a prior theft conviction from 2023.
Andre Travathan Carter, 46, of Jonesboro, faces a felony charge of Theft, $1,000 or less, Second Offense. His bail was set at $1,500 cash or surety by Judge Chris Thyer.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
