Woman Accused of Trying to Stab Man During Argument in Jonesboro

JONESBORO, Ark. — A woman is accused of aggravated assault after an altercation where she allegedly threatened someone with a knife Sunday in Jonesboro, according to a probable cause affidavit.

On Dec. 15, Jonesboro officers responded to an address on Court Street for a call about a subject with a weapon. Officers arrived and contacted the female complainant, who reported the incident between her male cousin and the female suspect. She said her cousin and the suspect were in a verbal argument. It escalated, leading to the suspect grabbing a knife and trying to stab the alleged victim, the affidavit said.

Officers made contact with the alleged victim, a male, by phone. He had left the scene. However, he informed officers the suspect did attempt to stab him during the argument.

Police spoke with the suspect, who reportedly informed officers that a physical altercation did occur, and she had the knife during the altercation. She stated she did not stab anyone with the knife. Officers collected the knife and logged it into evidence.

Alexis Marie Ruffin, 26, of Jonesboro, was arrested for aggravated assault on a family or household member, a Class D felony. Jail records also show her being held on warrants for failure to appear, a misdemeanor, and non-payment of fines.

On Monday, Judge David Boling set her bail at $10,000 cash or surety, ordering no contact with the victim and ordering the defendant not to possess any weapons.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
