$1.5 Million Bond Set for Man Accused of Aggravated Death by Delivery

JONESBORO, Ark. — A man who was arrested in August on a fentanyl trafficking charge is now facing a charge of homicide – aggravated death by delivery, a Class Y felony.

Jamien Daniel Thompson, 44, was in court on Friday facing two new charges including homicide – aggravated death by delivery and introducing a controlled substance into another person’s body, a Class B felony. Bail was set at $1.5 million cash or surety, in addition to the $500,000 bond already set for his prior charges.

The probable cause affidavit states that on August 2, Jonesboro detectives were called to the 900 block of E. Word Street about a deceased woman. Investigators learned she had a history of drug abuse and believed a drug overdose caused her death.

On August 6, officers executed a search warrant at Thompson’s apartment in the Gladiolus Apartment complex. Agents located four plastic baggies containing marijuana and two digital scales in the kitchen. In the living room, a hairbrush with a hidden compartment was found that contained two baggies of drugs. One contained 8.2 grams of a substance that field-tested positive for fentanyl. The other contained 5.5 grams of cocaine which also field-tested positive.

Through their investigation, police learned the victim was at the address at the Gladiolus Apartments on August 1, the evening before she was found dead. Witnesses said she was at Thompson’s house during this time and used drugs while there. Witnesses also said Thompson gave her a powder substance.

The affidavit states that officers read Thompson his rights and he admitted to knowing the victim and confirming she was at his residence. He also admitted to selling her fentanyl pills in the past, along with other drugs. The affidavit goes on to say Thompson admitted to selling others fentanyl as well.

However, Thompson denied giving the victim any fentanyl the last time she was at his residence. He later stated that another subject had given it to the victim.

Autopsy results showed the victim died from fentanyl, methamphetamine, and alprazolam toxicity. Specifically, the fentanyl concentration was well within the toxic to lethal range. The victim died 12 hours after leaving Thompson’s residence, police said.

Thompson faces up to life in prison for the Class Y felony charge, alone. While in court on Friday, the prosecution noted the case was extensive.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
