JONESBORO, Ark. — Councilman L.J. Bryant announced his campaign for mayor of Jonesboro on Wednesday.
Bryant made the announcement at a news conference Wednesday morning at IV King’s Coffee in downtown Jonesboro. He announced his campaign with a ten point plan. At the top of the list of Bryant’s ten goals was to reduce crime “by any means necessary” so that Jonesboro aligns with the state and national averages.
Bryant thanked everyone in attendance, which included his wife, Rebekah, his mother, mother-in-law, and his baby. He mentioned he had initially considered a run for mayor in 2020, but decided against it. In the 48 months since, Bryant said Jonesboro has declined in so many ways, including with increases in crime, poverty, homelessness, pan handlers, and illegal drug use.
“Are we better off today than we were four years ago?” Bryant asked.
The councilman pledged he would be a one term mayor. Bryant said he has no intentions of serving more than one four-year term.
Bryant mentioned he has almost twice the city government experience of current mayor and candidate for reelection, Harold Copenhaver. He also noted he has raised $150,000 in just the past few weeks – noting it was more than the incumbent raised in his entire previous campaign.
But Bryant noted the job is still to convince the voters and with 103 days left until the election, that will be the challenge.
“We won’t be outworked,” Bryant said. “We won’t be outspent with your help.”
Other announced candidates include Copenhaver and Jonesboro resident Jeremy Terrell.

Copenhaver has to Go!
I certainly wasn’t expecting him to promise to INCREASE crime and poverty. Whatever the case he would have to work hard to be worse than what we have now. But is already a politician and may manage to do it. How about term limits for mayors and city council members?
Can we get his voting record on city issues? How?
No! not LJ! Me have to lern to reed and rite now! He just smart tawking pretty boy. I prumise if I get re erected that I change name of J-Town to Pine Buff Joonyer!!!
He’s probably just another liberal you can’t find a fiscally conservative in Jonesboro city government I won’t vote for either of them.
