JONESBORO, Ark. — A laptop displaying a suspect’s name was found inside a vehicle after break-ins at a St. Bernards hospital parking garage, according to a probable cause affidavit.
Jacob Bell faces three counts of breaking or entering, a count of theft of credit or debit cards and a count of theft of property valued at $1,000 or less, according to first appearance paperwork dated Oct. 28.
The affidavit states that Jonesboro police received a report Sept. 23 that a vehicle had been stolen from the hospital’s parking garage. Trumann police stopped the vehicle a short time later and found Bell driving, according to the affidavit.
Bell was taken back to the hospital for medical clearance. While there, he told Jonesboro officers he had broken into other vehicles in the parking garage, the affidavit alleges.
One person later reported that $500 in $20 bills and credit cards had been taken from her vehicle. Trumann officers found $420 in $20 bills on Bell when he was arrested, according to the affidavit.
Another person reported that her vehicle had been rummaged through and that she found a laptop that did not belong to her inside it. The affidavit states that Bell’s name appeared on the laptop’s screen and that he was able to turn it on when it was brought to the hospital.
The breaking or entering and card theft allegations are Class D felonies. The theft allegation involving property valued at $1,000 or less is a Class A misdemeanor, according to the first appearance form.
Judge David Boling found probable cause Oct. 28 and set bail at $50,000 cash or surety. Bell’s next court appearance is scheduled for Dec. 16, according to the court paperwork.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
