OSCEOLA, Ark. – A woman was sentenced to 30 years in prison in the murder of her spouse from 2022 in Osceola.
Denton Porter, previously having pleaded not guilty, shifted her plea to guilty on January 29, 2024. She was sentenced to 30 years in the Arkansas Department of Correction.
Authorities found the body of Thomas Porter on July 7, 2022 at the Days Inn in Osceola. A press release from Prosecutor Sonia F. Hagood detailed a meticulous and unyielding investigation by law enforcement that culminated in the arrest of Thomas’ spouse, Denton, for murder.
Hagood, emphasizing the collaboration with law enforcement, commended the Osceola Police Department and Deputy Prosecuting Attorneys Dustin H. Jones and Jeremy Thomas for their exceptional efforts in securing the conviction.
“In a decisive affirmation of our commitment to public safety, our office, in unison with Law Enforcement, has demonstrated unwavering strength and a relentless pursuit of justice,”

Hagood acknowledged the broader success of her office, saying, “This significant plea is part of a series of successful prosecutions, including four (4) First Degree Murder convictions after jury trials in Crittenden and Mississippi Counties.”
In another win for justice on January 23, 2024, the Blytheville team secured three more murder convictions, highlighting the dedication and hard work of law enforcement and prosecutors.
Speaking to the often-underappreciated efforts of those in the legal system, Hagood emphasized the crucial role they play in getting convictions and handing out meaningful sentences.
“The perseverance and dedication of our police and prosecutors often go unnoticed, yet they are pivotal in achieving convictions and substantial sentences. The collaborative work of the Osceola Police Department and Deputy Prosecutors Jones and Thomas over the past 18 months exemplifies our united front against violent crime, reinforcing our unwavering commitment to the safety and justice of our community,” Hagood said in the release.
