Jonesboro Man Accidentally Shoots Himself in Leg While Adjusting Firearm Holster

JONESBORO, Ark. – A report of a shooting incident on Friday turned out to be a case of a man accidentally shooting himself in the leg.

The incident occurred between 3 and 4:15 PM on Dec. 8 near Cate Avenue and Bridge Street in Jonesboro, according to the report. Initially responding to the 2600-block of Cottonwood for a shooting incident, police discovered that the 73-year-old male victim had accidentally shot himself.

The victim reported that he was at the intersection of Cate and Bridge collecting pecans when he accidentally discharged his firearm while adjusting its holster in an attempt to place it in his front right pocket.

As a result, the man sustained injuries to his front right thigh and was transported to the hospital by ambulance.

The police department verified the firearm as clear and collected it along with the bloodied pants, logging them into evidence.
