Beware of Scam Emails Alleging Failure to Appear Charges in Craighead County

JONESBORO, Ark. – Residents of Craighead County are being warned about a series of deceitful emails falsely claiming payment demands for alleged Failure to Appear charges issued by the Craighead County Circuit Court, purportedly overseen by Marvin Day.

These deceptive emails state, “Refunds only apply if reset for Jury Duty,” adding a misleading urgency to their demands.

Craighead County officials have issued a stern advisory, emphasizing that the county administration never initiates contact via email for warrant-related issues or solicits payments over the phone.

Craighead County Judge Marvin Day clarified the misinformation and asserted his inability to issue warrants, as he does not serve as a judicial officer of the court. In Arkansas, a county judge is akin to being a county mayor.

Day urged individuals to scrutinize the sender’s email address for legitimacy, highlighting a specific instance where an email was purportedly sent by “Spanky” from spanky@budnewport.com, an address unrelated to Craighead County.

“I do not want anyone falling for this scam,” Judge Day stated in a release, expressing concern over the fraudulent nature of these emails and urging recipients to exercise caution and verify the legitimacy of such communications.

Residents are advised to remain vigilant and wary of unsolicited emails demanding payments or personal information. Authorities urge individuals to directly contact the courts using verified contact information to validate the authenticity of any warrant-related communication.
