JONESBORO, Ark. — A press release last week detailed the arrest of an area man on alarming allegations of sex crimes against a child.
James Mansfield was arrested by the Jonesboro Police Department’s Internet Crimes Against Children Division, Patrol and SWAT Team following allegations of sexual assault against a juvenile.
On Aug. 30, officers responded to a local hospital where a juvenile victim reported being sexually assaulted, police said in a release posted to social media. After an initial medical evaluation, the victim underwent a forensic examination and interview. During the interview, the child disclosed that a caretaker, identified as Mansfield, had sexually assaulted her over a three-week period, police said. The investigation also found that Mansfield had engaged in alcohol and vape consumption with the child.
Mansfield was arrested on Aug. 31 and transported to the Craighead County Detention Center. He appeared before a judge the following day and was given a $500,000 cash surety bond.
