
CORNING, Ark. – A high speed chase ended with two arrested for felony charges Sunday in Clay County.
At 9:40 AM February 19, a Clay County deputy was traveling westbound on Highway 328 north of Corning, a release from the sheriff’s department said. He observed a Red Ford Mustang on his side of the roadway headed toward him. The vehicle crossed back into his lane and then back into the deputy’s lane, almost hitting him. He turned around on the vehicle and then initiated a traffic stop he approached the Ford Mustang and the vehicle spun out throwing rocks all over him and the vehicle.
The deputy initiated the pursuit on County Road 139. The speed of the vehicle was 100 mph, the release said. They crossed Highway 67 still on CR 139 southbound. From there, they traveled about one mile, then the subject lost control of his vehicle, crossed into a road embankment, came back on the road, and ended up rolling the vehicle.

The female subject, Amanda Smith, 31, was thrown from the vehicle into a field. The male subject Jacob Woods, 22, jumped out and tried to run and flee. The deputy apprehended him and called for 1st responder and EMS.
Smith was airlifted to St Bernard in Jonesboro. Upon a physical examination, the doctor found a large bag of a white powdery substance believed to be drugs. Woods was airlifted to the Med in Memphis.
Deputy’s recovered an AR-15, what is believed to be drugs, and an amount of cash. The Clay County Sheriff’s Department was assisted by Corning Police Department and Arkansas State Police.

- Simultaneous Drugs and Firearm-felony
- Possession of a Controlled Substance-felony
- Possession of a Controlled Substance with/intent to deliver
- Possession of drug paraphernalia
- Possession of a Firearm by a certain person
Jacob Woods is being charged with:
- Simultaneous Drugs and Firearm-felony
- Possession of a Controlled Substance-felony
- Possession of a Controlled Substance with/intent to deliver
- Possession of drug paraphernalia
- Possession of a Firearm by a certain person
- Careless driving
- No driver license
- No Insurance
- No Seat belt
- Fleeing
- Resisting Arrest
