PIGGOTT, Ark. — Piggott Community Hospital is now offering chemotherapy and other cancer services through a new cancer center, where a ribbon-cutting ceremony was held this week.
The center, located at 1206 Gordon Duckworth Drive in Piggott. serves patients in Clay County and surrounding communities. Their services are intended to reduce the need to travel long distances for treatment, according to a hospital news release.
Services include chemotherapy, infusion therapy, diagnostic services, and individualized treatment plans. The hospital says it is the only hospital in Clay County offering this level of cancer care.
Dr. Miguel Albino serves as the center’s primary oncologist. According to the release, he has more than a decade of experience at Texas Oncology, a community oncology network.
Albino is supported by a physician team that collaborates on complex cases and treatment planning. The hospital said the team includes specialists with training at Harvard Medical School and experience at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
“A cancer diagnosis is challenging enough without the added stress of traveling long distances for treatment,” said James Magee, executive director of Piggott Community Hospital and Piggott Health Systems.
The center also provides a community and patient liaison to help patients and families schedule appointments, coordinate care and find information about treatment, insurance and available resources.
According to the hospital, the center will treat a range of cancers, including breast, lung, gastrointestinal, genitourinary, head and neck cancers, melanoma, leukemia and lymphoma. It also will offer geriatric oncology and palliative cancer care.
The expansion is intended to serve communities in northeast Arkansas and southeast Missouri, Magee said.
