Homicide investigation after body found in burning vehicle

WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. – The West Memphis Police Department is investigating a possible case of homicide, a release posted Sunday to social media said.

On January 15, 2023 at 12:41 AM the West Memphis Police Department received a call regarding a vehicle that was on fire in a ditch. The West Memphis Fire Department responded to the scene to extinguish the fire and the police department assisted for traffic control.

Once the fire was extinguished, fire department personnel discovered, what appeared to be a deceased female body, in the front passenger seat. At this point, detectives were called to the scene to begin their preliminary investigation.

This investigation led detectives to the 500 block of Weaver Drive where members of the Special Response Team executed a search warrant of a residence.

This is still an ongoing investigation and no arrests have been made at this time.

The remains of the deceased will be transferred to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for positive identification.
