Jonesboro, Ark. – NEA Baptist Pediatric Clinic will host a free water safety event on Saturday, June 4 at the NEA Baptist Wellness Center on Phillips Drive in Jonesboro from 10:00 a.m. to Noon.
The event is called SPLASH which stands for Safety and Prevention Leaves All Swimmers Happy. According to the CDC, drowning is the second leading cause of unintentional injury death behind motor vehicle crashes in children 1-14 years old. Arkansas ranks 8th in the nation in drowning deaths per year.
This free event is created with the ultimate goal of educating children and parents about proper water safety strategies as well as some basic techniques if a child finds themselves in a life-threatening situation.
Some of the education will include proper flotation devices and fitment, how to institute a water watcher program, hands only CPR, and basic water treading maneuvers. The event is free to attend, and the first 75 children in attendance will receive a gift!
Along with the education, children will find games, water slides, and other fun activities while attending.
