Suspect Faces Felony Charges in Alleged $111.87 Walmart Theft

Kenyatta B. Johnson faces two felony allegations after an alleged $111.87 Walmart theft. Police say he had been banned from the Jonesboro store.

JONESBORO, Ark. — An alleged theft of $111.87 in merchandise from Walmart has led to two felony allegations against a man police say had already been banned from the store, according to court documents.

Kenyatta B. Johnson faces commercial burglary and shoplifting allegations stemming from an Oct. 26 incident at the Highland Walmart.

A Jonesboro police officer working security at the store contacted Johnson about a shoplifting incident, according to a probable cause affidavit.

An asset protection employee reported seeing Johnson enter the store on a motorized shopping scooter while carrying a backpack, then conceal merchandise inside the backpack. Johnson passed all points of sale and left without paying for the items, the affidavit alleges.

The merchandise was valued at $111.87, according to the affidavit.

Investigators reported that Johnson had been banned from the business July 4. The affidavit also cites a June 16 conviction for theft of property valued at less than $1,000.

First appearance paperwork lists commercial burglary as a Class C felony and shoplifting involving property valued at $1,000 or less, second offense, as a Class D felony.

Judge David Boling found probable cause Oct. 28. Bond was set at $1,500 cash or surety, according to the court order. Johnson’s next court appearance is scheduled for Dec. 16.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
