Pocahontas man perishes in Clay County traffic crash

CLAY COUNTY, Ark. – A terrible accident resulted in one death and another injured Friday morning in Clay County.

The crash happened at 10 AM on September 18 at 2942 US Highway 67 in rural Clay County, according to the fatal crash summary report from Arkansas State Police. A 1999 GMC Sonoma was traveling east on 67 near the address listed above.

State police reported the vehicle crossed the center line traveling into oncoming traffic. At that exact moment, a 2013 Kenworth truck was traveling the opposite direction. The GMC’s left front fender crashed into the forward left trailer’s dual tires, police reported. The GMC then veered to the right after impact, traveling onto the south shoulder of the roadway.

The driver of the GMC, Robert G. Brewer, 46, of Pocahontas, tragically died from his injuries. Jimmy W. Clark, 59, of Pocahontas, was riding as a passenger in the vehicle. He was injured, the report said.

Conditions were clear with dry roads at the time of the accident, said police.
