St. Bernard’s reports room available in ICU

St. Bernard’s Media Relations Manager Mitchell Nail told NEA Report in an e-mail on Tuesday that their ICU had not yet reached full capacity.

The hospital operates on a three-tiered approach, ascending from green, yellow, and red.

“While we currently sit at Red, we still have ICU rooms available. We also have a surge plan in place to expand our ICU capacity should the need arise,” Nail said. “We often reach Red for any number of reasons, so our status is not alarming.”

One department that is near capacity at St. Bernard’s is the Labor & Delivery Department. However, the only surge they’ve reported is in new births – a happy sign in the middle of the pandemic, Nail noted. No COVID-19 positive mothers are in the department currently but they do have dedicated rooms prepared to isolate them from mothers and babies without COVID-19, according to the e-mail.
