Man arrested for shooting in Izard County

SAGE, Ark. – A shooting took place in Izard County last week and on Sunday, the suspect was in custody.

The Sheriff’s Department and emergency personnel responded to a residence in Sage on October 17 at approximately 5:11 p.m. for a reported shooting. A male victim was taken to a local hospital to be treated with what is believed to be non life threatening injuries.

The Sheriff’s Department began searching for 19 year old Jonathan Torres.

ARREST MADE IN SHOOTING CASE

As a result of an incident that took place at a residence in Sage on October 17 where a 17-year-old male was shot, a warrant for Jonathan Christian Torres, age 19 of Melbourne, was issued out of the Izard County Circuit Court, charging him with battery 1st degree, a class “b” felony.

On October 20 at approximately 11:00 p.m., information led deputies with the Izard County Sheriff’s Department and the Arkansas State Police to a residence in Mount Pleasant.

Torres was located and taken into custody without incident.

Torres is being held with no bond and a court date of October 23 in the Izard County Circuit Court.

A class “b” felony carries a prison sentence of five to twenty years.
