The victim was said to be in emergency surgery at last check. Her condition was not known.

A press release was issued:

Jonesboro Police, Craighead County Sheriff’s Department and EMS were dispatched in reference to an individual shot around 7:35 p.m. Wednesday evening in the 3100 block of Barnhill road.

A witness stated that a male suspect pulled a gun on a family member and the gun did not discharge. He then pointed and shot a female in the lower back. She was transported to an area hospital by a personal vehicle and underwent emergency surgery. Her status is not known at this time.

The subject barricaded himself in a mobile home and Jonesboro Police secured the area by blocking CW Post Road and Barnhill Road. Negotiators were called in to diffuse the situation. The suspect would not communicate with them during the standoff.

Approximately four hours into the standoff, S.W.A.T. deployed teargas and the subject fled the home through the back entrance. Shots were fired and the suspect was pronounced deceased on the scene.

State Police have been called in to investigate as part of the Jonesboro Police Department’s protocol.
