SCU/DTF arrests man with $17K and nine ounces of cannabis

Fled during attempted probation search, said release

JONESBORO, Ark. – A man is under arrest and over $17,000 in cash has been confiscated, along with nine ounces of cannabis, a press release from JPD said.

Investigators with the Jonesboro Police Department Street Crimes Unit (SCU) and 2nd Judicial District Drug Task Force Agents conducted a probation search of a Jonesboro man on November 30, 2017 that netted the seizure of over $17,000 and nine ounces of suspected marijuana.

LaTony Sims, 29, was stopped and detained a short distance from his home after he fled as officers attempted to conduct a probation search of the residence. Sims was found at that time to be in possession of suspected marijuana and related drug paraphernalia, the press release said. After he was arrested, officers performed their search of Sims’ home and vehicle. During the search, SCU located approximately $17,725 in cash that is believed to be related to the sale of drugs.

Sims was taken to the Craighead County Detention Center where he is being held on the charges of Possession of a Schedule VI Controlled Substance with the Purpose to Deliver and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He is expected to have a PC hearing on December 1, 2017.

Investigators will file for the forfeiture of the seized money through the 2nd Judicial District Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, the press release said.
