Ash Flat man charged with murder

Johnston has been charged with Murder in the First Degree, Aggravated Residential Burglary, Aggravated Assault on a Family or Household Member and Violation of an Order of Protection.

ASH FLAT, Ark. – Henry Boyce, Third Judicial District Prosecuting Attorney, announced charges have been filed Monday, Nov. 20, against Freddie Howard Johnston, 34, of Ash Flat.

Johnston has been charged with Murder in the First Degree, Aggravated Residential Burglary, Aggravated Assault on a Family or Household Member and Violation of an Order of Protection.

The charges stem from an incident that occurred on Agnos Road on November 2, 2017. Johnston is charged with entering a home, shooting Jeremy Watkins, and then turning the gun on himself in an apparent suicide attempt.

Watkins was transported by emergency medical personnel and subsequently died from his injuries on November 12, 2017.
