Winter Wonderland, skating rink dates set

November 18 – December 31

JONESBORO, Ark. – The 200 block of West Monroe Avenue is closed for the rest of the year as the City of Jonesboro’s Winter Wonderland and First Community Bank Wonderland Rink are prepared to provide family entertainment during the holidays.

“These are two venues that give downtown a good dose of Christmas spirit, and we want to keep them alive and growing,” Mayor Harold Perrin said.

The synthetic ice-skating venue, donated by First Community Bank and debuted last year, will be open until Dec. 31 in the parking lot along the 300 block of Union Street. Its hours will be 4-10 p.m. weekdays, 1-10 p.m. Saturdays and 1-6 p.m. Sundays.

Skate sessions are 45 minutes and start at the top of each hour. Skates are provided with the $5 fee.

“We didn’t know how much a success it would be last year, but it was a big hit,” Jonesboro Parks and Recreation Director Wixson Huffstetler said, “especially the group and school events.”

Group rates for 25 participants or more are available on Sundays for $130 and up. Sunday group rentals are one-hour slots starting at 6, 7:30 and 9 p.m. School classes can also rent the rink for field trips during school hours. Call 870-933-4604 for more information.

Winter Wonderland, which is free to all, will open through Dec. 21. The Christmas-themed entertainment venue for kids is at 215 W. Monroe Ave., and will be open 5:30-8 p.m. weekdays and 1-8 p.m. Saturdays. Santa will be available to meet the kids on dates soon to be announced.
