Woozy woman arrested after whiskey-fueled wreck

JONESBORO, Ark. – Just before noon Wednesday, onlookers at the intersection of Peachtree and Pleasant Grove in Jonesboro saw an unconscious woman crash a bright yellow muscle car.

When they tried to get her to wake up, the JPD incident report said, they couldn’t. The yellow 2016 Chevy Camaro, along with Tresure L. Lemons, 38, of Jonesboro in the passenger seat, was reported to police. At 11:47 a.m., Officer Jeff Vernon was dispatched and met with other officers and firefighters. It wasn’t a mystery what had happened, the report describes. Lemons smelled of intoxicants, another officer reported, and a 750 mill. bottle of whiskey was in the seat with her.

Vernon could smell the whiskey as he approached the vehicle. He took possession of the bottle. He also took a Ruger .380 caliber pistol, which Lemons had a valid concealed carry license for, the report indicated.

With Lemons coming to, the officer tried to give her a field sobriety test but determined she was a danger to herself to attempt to complete it. She was placed under arrest and taken to Craighead County Detention Center. Once they arrived, the test was administered again, being in a remote location and out of traffic. Once again, the test had to be stopped for her safety. Inside, the report said she blew a 0.24 – three times the 0.08 legal blood alcohol limit.

The officer noted her driver’s history showed she had a license with restrictions and should have had an interlock device – a device which prevents the vehicle from starting if the driver has been drinking. The vehicle she was driving was determined to be an Enterprise rented car without one installed at the time of the accident.

Lemons was jailed for DWI and no proof of insurance.
