ASH FLAT, Ark. – A beloved local couple was killed in a wreck in Ash Flat on Monday, the Spring River Chronicle reported.
Around 4:30 p.m. Monday afternoon on U.S. 62, in front of Pizza Hut, in Ash Flat, Nelson Gatewood, 93 and Phyllis Gatewood, 87, of Highland, were killed when the van they were driving was hit in the passenger side by a truck, the Chronicle reported. The vehicle which struck them was registered to Ronnie Barnes of Walnut Ridge. The driver of the truck, presumably Barnes, was airlifted.
