Derby Days fundraiser for CASA held

NEWPORT, Ark. – Supporters from all corners gathered recently to host a fundraiser for a service for abused and neglected children in NEA.

On Saturday, May 6, 2017 Gateway CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) hosted a Derby Days fund raiser in Newport. Supporters from Jackson, Lawrence, Randolph and Sharp Counties attended the fun-filled afternoon.

The Gateway CASA chapter serves the abused and neglected children of the Third Judicial District which is comprised of Jackson, Lawrence Randolph and Sharp Counties. Volunteer advocates are commissioned by Third Judicial District Judge Kevin King to serve as the eyes and ears, and voice for, children involved in cases in his court.

Judy Felts of Newport was presented the Shirley Dawson Award of Excellence for her work with the organization.

Amanda Parrish is the executive director. Mary Medlock, Victim Services Coordinator for Prosecuting Attorney Henry Boyce is the president of the board. Board Members are: Jackson County – Henry Boyce, Dr. Sandra Massey, Judy Felts; Lawrence County – Judge Adam Weeks; Randolph County – Dr. Jan Zeigler, Diana Dalton; Sharp County – Mary Medlock and Greg Bess.
