Report: Woman paid in counterfeit money for ride

JONESBORO, Ark. – When a woman handed a $20 bill to the cashier at McDonald’s on Johnson Avenue, they were not lovin’ it.

It was because the cashier noticed the bill was a fake. However, the woman making the purchase was also a victim in the incident, according to the report.

It began around 3 a.m. Tuesday morning, when a woman was contacted by a man, Robert Cannady, 57, of Jonesboro, asking for a ride to Melrose Street. When the 19-year-old woman went to pick him up and give him a ride, he paid her $20.

After she dropped him back off at his original location, she decided to visit McDonald’s on Johnson Avenue to buy some food. However, the McDonald’s employee noticed the bill was a fake, leading the 19-year-old to contact Jonesboro Police Department.

The woman showed text messages to police, which were photographed. The counterfeit $20 was taken and placed into evidence as well.

As of the release of the report Tuesday morning, authorities had not yet made contact with the man. However, creating counterfeit money comes with a felony charge of first degree forgery.

If you can help authorities with this or other cases, call Crimestoppers at 935-STOP.
