Texas Man Drowns in Poinsett County

RIVERVALE, Ark. – A Texas man tragically died over the weekend while swimming a river in Poinsett County, a press release said.

On May 19, 2024, at approximately 7:27 PM, the Poinsett County 911 Center received a call reporting a possible drowning at Rivervale. The Poinsett County Sheriff’s Office, Poinsett County Sheriff Search and Rescue Team, Lepanto Fire Department, Lepanto Police Department, Caraway Police Department, Craighead County Sheriff’s Office, and Caraway Fire Department all responded to the scene.

According to witnesses, 32-year-old Justin Leigh Pool of New Boston, TX, was swimming in the river at Rivervale with four other men when the current pulled Pool under the water. Despite efforts from the other swimmers, they could not save Pool from drowning.

Pool’s body was recovered at approximately 9:15 PM and sent to the Medical Examiner at the Arkansas State Crime Lab for an autopsy. No foul play is suspected.

“We are grateful to all the departments and individuals who assisted in the recovery. Our thoughts and prayers are with Justin Pool’s friends and family,” Sheriff Kevin Molder said.
