JONESBORO, Ark. — Craighead County has issued a countywide burn ban effective immediately and continuing until further notice.
The ban prohibits all outdoor burning. County officials said extreme heat, dry conditions, winds and growing concerns for firefighter safety prompted the order.
The directive was issued Friday by Craighead County Judge Marvin Day and the Craighead County Office of Emergency Management in collaboration with Arkansas Forestry Services.
Officials said the current weather conditions and rapidly drying vegetation have increased the risk of wildfires.
The Craighead County Sheriff’s Office, local fire district officials, the county Office of Emergency Management and Arkansas Forestry Services will enforce the ban.
Residents are urged to comply with the restrictions to help prevent fires. The burn ban will remain in effect until conditions improve and officials issue an order lifting it.
