A woman faces three felony charges after Paragould police reported finding a glass pipe and a bag of white crystalline material in a hidden vehicle compartment during a Nov. 3 traffic stop, according to an arrest affidavit.
Angie Cole, of Manila, told officers the items were not hers and said the substance was probably ice cream salt, the affidavit states. An initial test produced inconclusive results, and the substance was sent to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory for further testing.
Investigators allege Cole later admitted selling methamphetamine and using her phone to arrange deals. The affidavit lists a charge involving possession of a counterfeit substance with the purpose to deliver.
Traffic Stop and Search
Paragould officers stopped the vehicle for improper window tinting and because they suspected the driver was driving on a suspended license, according to the affidavit signed by Investigator Jacob Harris.
Cole confirmed her license was suspended, the affidavit states. After officers asked her to get out of the vehicle, she gave them permission to search it.
Inside a hidden compartment, officers reported finding a used glass pipe with a bulbous end and a long stem, burn marks and white residue. A clear corner baggie containing a white crystalline substance consistent in appearance with methamphetamine was next to the pipe, according to the affidavit.
Cole denied the items belonged to her and told officers the substance was probably ice cream salt. Officers also found a large box labeled Ice Cream Salt in the back seat, the affidavit states.
The material was tested at the Paragould Police Department, but the result was inconclusive. The affidavit does not report a final laboratory result.
Charges and Bond
During an interview after being advised of her Miranda rights, Cole admitted selling methamphetamine and using her phone to facilitate deals, Harris wrote. Investigators reported finding messages on her phone indicating involvement in drug sales and distribution.
The affidavit lists one count each of possession of a counterfeit substance with the purpose to deliver and unlawful use of a communication device, both Class C felonies; possession of drug paraphernalia, a Class D felony; and driving on a canceled, suspended or revoked license, a misdemeanor.
Cole was fingerprinted and taken to the Greene County Detention Center, according to the affidavit.
Bond was set at $50,000 surety in a Nov. 3 court order. The order also requires Cole to comply with ankle monitor requirements and remain law-abiding as conditions of release.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
